DJ SMOKEY BEAR
As an official DJ for Poe Boy Music Group, DJ Smokey Bear is an award winning DJ who has been taking the Florida music market by storm. From mix-tapes, to live DJ sets, DJ Smokey Bear is a DJ that is setting trends.
Born and raised in Miami, FL, Smokey Bear learned of his love for music and his talent for DJing after receiving two turntables and a mixer for a Christmas present in middle school. DJ Smokey Bear has been DJing every since.
"I was always fascinated with DJing. I use to buy DMC Championship videos back on VHS and I would watch them all the time," says Smokey.
DJing throughout high school, Smokey decided to put together his own mix-tape, which received great feedback. Shortly after releasing his second mix-tape, he had learned that his latest work had been placed in the Source Magazine for review. This accomplishment set DJ Smokey Bear on a path to follow his dreams as a professional DJ.
Smokey has performed live DJ sets at numerous events including the popular Coast2Coast music events. Not only has Smokey performed at the hottest clubs in Miami, including Dream, Cameo, Ink, Nocturnal, and Queen of Diamonds; but he has also performed in his native country of Haiti, at the Point Bar.
Smokey Bear is a member of the prominent DJ Coalition, the Core DJs. Recently Smokey was nominated by Best in Dade for Mix-tape DJ of the Year, and won the 2012 Duval Diamond Award for Mix-tape DJ of the Year.
Smokey has plenty of plans for the future, and for his career in music. "I plan to take it to the top. There’s no looking back. I wanna be able to impact the game. I want to travel the world and eventually becoming an executive in the music business."
Smokey Bear is influenced by some of the leaders in DJing including DJ Drama, DJ Craze, Funk Master Flex, DJ Kay Slay, and DJ Khaled. Smokey Bear derives his inspiration from music, his culture, and from whats taking place around him. He enjoys music from artists such as Currency, 2 Chainz, T.I., Jay Z, Billy Blue, Rocko, and Rick Ross. His all time favorite artist is 2Pac. "He has countless hits and his music is timeless," says Smokey Bear. When asked what type of music he prefers, he admits "I prefer Hip Hop and Reggae, but I've been opening my mind to all types of new music- such as pop, electro house, and dupstep."
Currently DJ Smokey Bear is the official tour DJ for Poe Boy Music Group's recording artists, Ghostwridah, and Kulture Shock. Smokey Bear also serves as Media Director for the popular 24hourhiphop.com website. In conjunction with 24hourhiphop.com, Smokey is set to release his new mix-tape series, "The Streets Is Talkin'"
